Burlington Coat Factory Shopping Plaza Paramus, NJ Concrete Replacement
Challenge
Quality 1st Basement Systems was awarded thebid to replace all concrete sidewalks, three (3) dockpads, two (2) dumpster pads, and two (2) sets of steps and curbing in the Burlington Coat Factory Shopping Center in Paramus, NJ. The concrete wasbroken in many places causing trip hazards forcustomers and employees. The trip hazards createda liability for the shopping center and neededto be repaired. The broken concrete was also aneyesore. Burlington Coat Factory wanted to replace and reinforce the concrete on the loading docks to ensure that deliveries would continue to run smoothly and to avoid any possible issues for the heavy trucks and shipments.
Quality 1st Basement Systems prepared sub-basesto receive the different required thickness of newconcrete in the various areas of the shopping center.Due to a number of different uses, Burlington had separate requirements for the sidewalks, docks, dumpster pads, and curbing. Burlington Coat Factory requested that all sidewalks would have 4” thickness of concrete, dock pads would have 8” of thickness, dumpster pads would have 6” of thickness, and the curbing would need 18” of thickness.
Solution
The concrete in the docking area were installed including compacted stone base, wire mesh and rebar to reinforce the concrete. The crew poured new 4000 PSI concrete per specifications in the areas where concrete replacement was needed.Quality 1st Basement Systems also installed three(3) American Disability Act (ADA) ramps in the sidewalks per local requirements. During the installation, Burlington Coat Factory decided to move forward with replacement of two concrete stairways due to broken concrete on the stairs.
Quality 1st Basement Systems completely restored the shopping mall concrete sidewalks and curbs. The new dock pads and dumpster pads were installed meeting Burlington’s requirements and expectations. The stairways were restored as well. All of the work was completed in 30 days with no disruption to the shopping center’s business.
