McDonalds Renovated in Edgewater, NJ
Challenge
Quality 1st Basement Systems was contacted by Max Construction to install 3.5” diameter Helical piles from 30 to 50 kips or spinoff at 50’ bedrock for a new addition to the rear and side of an existing McDonalds in Edgewater, NJ. The plan specified that 20 new construction helical piles were to be installed in the new grade beams. Quality 1st Basement Systems suggested to enlist the help of their sister company Quality 1st Contracting to install the grade beams, concrete floors, sidewalks, dumpster enclosure, curbs, and footings to be used for signage.
During the installation of the helical piles on the rear of the building, large diameter boulders were encountered which were unable to be removed by any excavators. At this time, Quality 1st Basement Systems contracted HRS Drilling to core drill 9 holes up to 20’ and then adapt the drill rig to install the first 30’ of the 3.5” diameter helical to ensure that they had been cored past the boulders. The drill rig then moved onto the next location and the Quality 1st Basement Systems Team installed the helical to the final design depth of 50’.
Solution
While the helical team handled that portion of the installation, the Quality 1st Contracting team installed 160 feet of new leader pipe drainage, new curbs, and sidewalks along one side of the building. The single drive-thru lane was reconstructed to accommodate two drive-thru lanes with new concrete drives, new curbs, and new 36” diameter concrete footings for signs and menu boards. Once the helicals were all installed, new grade beams and floors were installed to allow the framer to frame the new additions to the building.
The McDonalds was shut down and renovated in under 45 days. Quality 1st Basement Systems and Quality 1st Contracting worked side by side with the general contractor’s electrician, framers, and stucco installers to keep the project moving to meet all deadlines. The owner of the store was thoroughly pleased with the work and rate at which the work was done. All obstacles were overcome in a timely manner and the project was completed on time and within budget.
